Asklepios Klinik Barmbek works closely with medical travel facilitators as partners in care that together provide excellent outcomes for their international patients and medical travelers
International patients and medical tourists
The hospital claims to be one of the most advanced hospitals in Europe with many state-of-the-art treatments. It serves approximately 80,000 patients from Germany and abroad.
With 19 departments, approximately 620 beds and more than 1,600 staff members, the hospital is dedicated to ensuring every patient receives the best all-round care.
Asklepios Klinik Barmbek provides full-range assistance if patients are interested in undergoing treatments at the hospital. In order to keep all guests fully prepared and give the best possible advice, the team requires detailed and up-to-date medical documentation. The documents can be either in English or German. Each patient’s case is determined individually and the hospital’s specialists provide specific treatment plans after all the documentation is reviewed and plans are discussed in person with every patient.
Through its international office, the hospital provides an overall cost estimate before each patient’s stay. This will include cost estimates for the medical procedure, duration of treatment as well as accommodation for the patient and the accompanying person. Payment is required in advance if the patient decides to undergo treatment.

To help organize all stays and visits in the clinic, the hospital can put patients in touch with one of the medical travel facilitators in its network. These facilitators are there to offer advice and support in arranging travel, handling visa issues, locating hotel accommodation for people traveling with the patient and coordinating all treatment appointments. The agencies also have interpreters familiar with medical procedures on hand.
General and Visceral Surgery, Surgical Oncology
The department has a specialist and well-qualified team of experienced surgeons to care for patients in all areas relating to diseases of the abdominal region and the gastrointestinal tract. The team focuses on the entire field of tumor surgery, especially of the liver. The ultimate goal is to provide treatment with the latest therapy, whereby the patient benefits from substantially reduced pain, faster recovery, a shorter stay in the clinic and minimal scarring. Moreover, the hospital uses highly specialized processes such as computer-assisted operation planning whenever necessary.
Visceral surgery comes from the Latin word “viscera” meaning “organs”, thus visceral surgery is surgery of internal organs. This is defined as a subspecialty in Germany and does not exist in this form in the Anglo-American medical system.
